The north of Tenerife is greener and quieter than the south, with historic towns, vineyards and forests. If you are staying in or near Puerto de la Cruz, these are the experiences close at hand and the tours that pick you up in the north.
In Puerto de la Cruz and La Orotava
Puerto de la Cruz is home to Loro Parque, one of the most awarded zoos in the world, with orcas, dolphins, gorillas and over 400 species. To see the town and the colonial old town of La Orotava without tiring yourself out, there are electric tuk-tuk tours with a driver. And for the evening, a flamenco show at Casa Ábaco, an 18th-century Canarian mansion in the centre of Puerto de la Cruz.

The north is wine country: El Sauzal is home to the Casa del Vino, on a 17th-century estate with views of Teide, and TACOA, the first craft brewery in the Canary Islands. In Arafo, Bodegas Ferrera has organic vineyards at about 1,000 metres, with tastings even at night under the stars.

Guided hikes cross the Anaga laurel forest from La Laguna or follow the Camino Real between banana terraces. In El Tanque, Camello Center has been breeding camels for over 25 years and runs a bus from Puerto de la Cruz on Wednesdays.
