Pilot whales and dolphins all year round: pick your boat, shared or private.
Tenerife is one of the few places in the world with resident pilot whales, living all year round in the channel between the island and La Gomera, and dolphins are seen on most trips. Pick the boat you like best: the one with underwater viewing to see them below the surface too, the sailing boat or the catamaran in a small group, the big shared boats from Puerto Colón, the route to the Los Gigantes cliffs, or a private boat with a skipper just for your group. Every trip runs along the south coast with a licensed crew, and most include a swim stop.
The sailing boat and the catamaran go in small groups with food and drinks on board. The big shared boats are the most affordable way to bring the whole family. The underwater-viewing boat is the shortest, two hours, with a window below the surface. Los Gigantes is the longest route, up to the cliffs. And the private boat is yours, with the route you want.
Nothing wild is guaranteed, but the pilot whales here are resident, not migratory, so they are seen on the vast majority of trips all year round.
Shared means a set departure with other people, priced per person. Private means the boat, the skipper and the route are yours, priced per boat: the bigger the group, the less per person.
Yes. The catamaran and the big boats are wide and stable, and the swim stop is what children remember. Tell us their ages with your plan: on the shared boats they usually pay a reduced fare.
The routes run through sheltered waters. If you tend to get seasick, take something an hour before, stay on deck looking at the horizon and choose a wide boat such as the catamaran.
